Newsletter #16 – Critique for the looming competition!

Dear PhotoSoccers,

Welcome to the innovative learning week edition of the PhotoSoc newsletter. It is by no means innovative. Sorry. Although this week we are going to attempt to bribe people with sweets, does that count?  Anyway, this weeks meeting is your chance to get some feedback on potential competition entries in our Critique Evening – with the deadline looming, its decision time for your final three!

1. Critique Evening
This Friday, Pentland Room (Pleasance), 7pm

This Friday we shall be having a critique evening in preparation for the competition. We will be choosing a selection of images for both the PhotoSoc Flickr group and also the Competition Flickr group. We will then show them on the screen one at a time, and get people to offer their critique. So make sure you get your photos into the Flickr group to ensure they will be considered.

As an added bonus, anyone who offers critique of value or has their picture displayed and takes compliments/criticism will be awarded a sweet! With no limit on the number you can get!

So in summary – FREE SWEETS*

2. Competition

The competition for semester 2 this year is going to be a little bit different to in the past. This year has seen one of our most active memberships in a long time, and as such we want to celebrate all your talents across many themes. As such the title of this years exhibition will be “The Best of PhotoSoc.” It will run as follows. Starting… Now, you can upload 3 pictures to our new flickr page. They must be your BEST 3 pictures, and can be taken anytime, but more recent would be nice! Then up until the closing date (2nd of March) you will be welcome to replace your 3 pictures as much as you like, but only your MOST RECENT 3 uploads
will be considered. We will then create a short list of around 30 photographs, and arrange to have them printed. You will then all be invited along to vote for in the usual way, from which prizes will be awarded and an exhibition arranged! We think this is the best way to ensure an exhibition which will show off everyone ones talent in all the fields of photography.

Upload your pictures here now: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1865888@N20/

3. Shop

PhotoSoc has a shop. Who knew? We have lots of stock in the cupboards ready for purchase, at very competitive rates. So what should you do? First head here to see what we have;

http://www.photosoc.com/facilities/photo-shop/

Then write down a list, and at the next meeting find James Killick (treasurer) and shout and scream that you want to buy things. He will then don his flat cap and arrange the merchandise. You then just pay him money and all is well.

4. Darkroom/Lightroom Tutorials

If anyone is keen for a tutorial to get access to our Darkroom/Lightroom, these will now be arranged as the demand calls for them. So if interested email photosoc.ed@gmail.com with the subject “Darkroom” or “Lightroom.”

5. Picture of the Week

This weeks picture of the week comes from Isobel (Flickr: roxy_i53). Its a great perspective, with tasteful post-processing! Well done Isobel!

Newsletter #14 – Urban Exploration talk this Friday!

Dear Photosoccers,

Hope everyones week has got off to a good start. Last Friday’s meeting was a great night, with loads of hands on stuff. I hope everyone took something from it, we will definitely be making sure we include more hands on stuff in the coming weeks. This weeks Saturday trip is going to be held off until next weekend, as we are arranging something which will be very cool, but needs a bit more organisation! So sorry, but trust me it will be worth it!
